The catches of Anguilla Japonica in Taiwan so far are significantly lower than last year. 100 kgs this year compared with 500-600 kgs last year.
By now should have seen some Anguilla Japonica being caught in China. However nothing has appeared yet.
Prices of Anguilla Japonica sold to Japan are currently 570,000 yen per kilo. Count 5000 pieces per kilo.
The ex farm price for eel in China is 75 rmb per kilo.
The kabiyaki price in Japan is 16 USD per kilo with an expectation of exceeding 20 USD per kilo in the near future if the high price of glass eels ismaintained.

The price of eel in China has increased by 25%. over the last few months. The prices are likely to increase further. Though Fujian province where a lot of eel production is based was not seriously affected by the recent typhoon the situation in Taiwan is very different. First reports indicate that 40% of the eel farms have been damaged.
The US now has very little stock of eel on hand. Prices of small eel 4-6 pieces are now 60 rmb ( 6.15 Euro) per Kg , for the larger eel greater than 300 gms the price is 45 rmb (4.62 Euro ) per Kg ex farm China. C&F
The price of frozen gutted eels from China C&F European sea port has increased over the last few months from 6.00-6.5 USD to 8.0 to 8.5 USD per kg.
May be the situation will improve but if exports of glass eels continue to Asia we will not be any better off.
